The family of a young woman killed in a fatal collision says the sentencing for another driver involved in the crash is not stiff enough.
Molly McGregor, 17, died in April 2008 when her vehicle was rear-ended outside her home in Carleton Place, pushing her car into oncoming traffic.
The driver of the pickup truck that rear-ended McGregor was sentenced Thursday to 60 days in jail, a two-year license suspension and probation.
The driver, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was convicted of careless driving and acquitted on the criminal charge of leaving the scene of a crash.
Eleven of Molly McGregor's family and friends read victim impact statements at the sentencing hearing at the Perth courthouse Thursday. Her parents say her death has devastated their family.
"It's a horrendous ordeal and it's a family-crushing ordeal. It is really, you know, you lose your daughter in the prime of her life there. I wouldn't wish it on anybody," said James McGregor, Molly's father.
McGregor's family says they hope to appeal the ruling.
