A female pedestrian was killed when she was struck by a Via Rail train east of Cornwall late Friday morning.

Police say the woman was struck at about 11:45 a.m. near a rail crossing at County Road 34 in the village of Lancaster, Ont.

The woman's age and identity is currently unknown.

Both CN and Via Rail trains were delayed while police continue their investigation. Motorists in the area are asked to avoid County Road 34.
