Via Rail service has been restored on the Ottawa-Toronto line.

On Wednesday, a native blockade set up at a rail crossing between Kingston and Belleville caused delays.

Passengers from Ottawa en route to Toronto  had to disembark at Kingston and board a bus for the remainder of the trip.    VIA Rail Spokesperson Mylene Belanger said hundreds of passengers were affected. " We can expect  around five trains on the Ottawa-Toronto segment to be impacted, and five others between Montreal and Toronto", says Belanger.

VIA Rail is offering travel credits and full refunds for passengers who choose not to travel.

The blockade was part of  a national  Idle No More protest across the country.
