Dep. Chief Charles Bordeleau is getting a promotion. He is the new Chief of the Ottawa Police Service.

Bordeleau will replace Vern White who has moved on to the Senate.

Before assuming his position as deputy chief in August 2010, Bordeleau served as Superintendent of the Emergency Operations Division.

Bordeleau has nearly three decades with the Ottawa Police Service and is fluently bilingual.

He has also served as Superintendent in charge of east division and Inspector overseeing patrol in central division.

Bordeleau holds two degrees, including a Bachelor of Administration from the University of Ottawa.

In addition to this, Bordeleau has completed the Police Leadership Program at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management and the Community Policing Management Program at Queen's University.

The 28-year veteran immediately received many messages of congratulations from public officials.

Bordeleau will be sworn in on Monday.
