Campers in the Upper Ottawa Valley say boats and tables were sent flying during what Environment Canada is calling an unconfirmed tornado Monday.

About 15 trailers and 100 trees were damaged at her campground, said Lake Dore Tent and Trailer Park owner Carole Brisebois. There were no injuries.

The damage happened while the area was under a mid-afternoon tornado warning.

"I was praying because I thought the trailer . . . I thought for sure it was going to go ove," said Suzanne Aubrey.

"We stepped inside as the rain came down with great force and then we heard all the snapping and cracking," said Brad Curtis. "Then a chunk of tree fell onto the trailer."

Severe thunderstorm warnings are still in effect for much of the region, with the rest under a severe thunderstorm watch.

Hydro Ottawa is reporting more than 4,000 affected by outages in Barrhaven, with about 15,000 without power in Renfrew County according to Hydro One.

There are many reports of hail in east Ottawa, with some pictures showing it as bigger than a nickel.

Along with the storms came some badly-needed rain, helping with area brush fires and giving relief to a tinder-dry landscape.

"The farmers need the rain, the grass needs the rain, we all need the rain," said one woman.
