Thirteen-year-old Tyler Huneault was supposed to die ten years ago.

The Ottawa teen has sialidosis, a disorder so rare that his mother says the doctor diagnosing him hadn't heard of it.

Outliving his life expectancy of three years old, Huneault holds an annual garage sale and lemonade stand to help fund research at McMaster University, not for changes to his home to help himself.

"I say to (anyone struggling) to never give up and to make new friends and to sell lemonade," he said.

Sialidosis comes from a missing enzyme and affects bones, muscles, the liver and the brain.
