A crash just south of the Rideau Carleton Raceway in Ottawa killed two 18-year-olds riding in a Pontiac Sunfire. Four people in another car, a Hyundai Santa Fe, were sent to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to critical.

The collision took place around 7:45 p.m. Saturday near Albion and Rideau roads, southeast of the Ottawa International Airport. The area was closed to traffic overnight as investigators looked into the cause. That probe is still ongoing.

An 18-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, with another male -- age estimated around 18 -- also dead in the crash.

In the other car, all four people were sent to hospital. An 82-year-old female was initially identified as being in critical condition with a head injury, and was semi-conscious when paramedics came. She improved to serious but stable condition when she arrived at the Ottawa Hospital Trauma Centre.

Also seriously injured was a female, 56, with a severe chest injury and a possible fractured sternum. She is also at the Ottawa Hospital Trauma Centre.

A man, 67, had head, neck, shoulder and abdominal injuries and awoman, 61, sustained a broken left wrist.

No names have been released yet, or charges laid, in relation to the incident.
