After 11 years and two lengthy trials, two Ottawa men were free Friday after a judge quashed their first-degree murder convictions.

The case dates back to May 1997 when hydro worker Earl Joe was gunned down outside his Uplands Drive town home.

Peter Chenier and George Farley had their first convictions overturned in 2006. A new trial, which ended today, had the same result.

Witnesses Andr Boisclair and Danny Moore had earlier testified against them but were found to be not credible.
