Two arrests have been made for sex-related crimes, in Carleton Place for sexual assault, and in Barrhaven for internet-based child pornography.

In Carleton Place, west of Ottawa, Ontario Provincial Police charged 26-year-old Michael Hawes with sexual assault.

Early last Thursday morning, police were called to a pathway off Napoleon Street, where they found a 19-year-old woman who had been attacked. Police saw a man fleeing the crime scene.

Tuesday afternoon, they arrested Hawes at his Beckwith Township home. He is behind bars and will appear in court Sept. 3.

For a sex crime in the virtual realm, the Ottawa Police Service High Tech Crime/Child Internet Exploitation team arrested and charged a man on Thursday.

Paul David Beaudoin, 47, was charged with possession and accessing child pornography as well as voyeurism.

The investigation was conducted based on information provided by the National Child Exploitation Coordination Center in Ottawa and the Federal Ministry of the Interior in Austria.

Ottawa Police searched his Barrhaven home, where they seized a computer, video camera, CDs and DVDs.

Beaudoin is set to appear for a show cause hearing Friday morning.
