A working smoke alarm is being credited with saving the lives of two people who escaped a North Gower house fire early Wednesday morning.
About 40 firefighters responded to the blaze on Roger Stevens Drive as the fire ripped through a log house at about 4:30 a.m. Damage is estimated at about $70,000.
Officials say the fire is believed to have started outside the house, but does not appear to be suspicious.
