Two pet parakeets were rescued from a basement fire that broke out on Forbes Avenue near Hazeldean Road and Castlefrank Road just before noon on Sunday.
Ottawa Fire said a dog was also rescued, but that another parakeet perished in the blaze.
Fire officials said the fire caused $150,000 in damage to the structure of the home and $75,000 to its contents.
One of the owners of the home was assessed for smoke inhalation.
Three people will be displaced as a result of this fire. There is no word on when they may be able to return home.There’s no word on when they can return home.
