Ottawa fire crews responded to two minor fires within minutes of each other on Saturday morning.

The first happened around 7:25 a.m. at an apartment building at 214 Viewmount Drive, near Nepean.

Three trucks and about 11 firefighters responded to a fire on a fourth floor balcony, which they said was quickly extinguished.

It caused about $5,000 damage to the building.

The other fire happened around 7:35 a.m. at 170 Booth Street, just west of Ottawa's downtown core.

That fire needed six trucks and about 25 firefighters to put it out, causing about $30,000 damage, according to fire crews.
