Police in west Quebec are investigating a double fatality after a head-on crash on Highway 105 near Wakefield Thursday morning. Two others were injured.

Police say the crash occurred when the driver of a southbound vehicle lost control of the car, crossed the line and collided with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

Police say road conditions were poor at the time of the crash.

"It was snowy. The road conditions were difficult, but it's not for sure the road conditions were a major factor," said Martin Fournel, of the MRC de Collines.

The driver and passenger in the southbound car were both killed. The two people in the other vehicle were injured and transported to hospital. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The couple who died in the crash is believed to be from Upper Gatineau. Two Wakefield women were in the other car. The names of the victims have not been released.

The crash occurred Thursday morning a few kilometers north of Wakefield.

Police rerouted traffic around the collision for several hours.
