Fire officials are investigating after a two-alarm blaze caused an estimated $1 million in damages at a three-storey commercial building in Ottawa's southeast end late Tuesday night.

It took 33 firefighters just over an hour to quell the blaze at 2660 Southvale Crescent, which started just before 11 p.m.

The third floor of the building is reported to be the most heavily damaged.

"There were lots of water, so water damage for sure. And then fire people broke all the windows to get the fresh air in. So, all the windows have to be replaced. I think there is a big hole in the roof too," said fire victim Vijay Dhavale.

Firefighters said one person was in the building at the time of the fire and was able to escape without injury.

The building is home to several businesses, including Kelly's Mastectomy Boutique, which serves women who have undergone breast surgery.
