A tentative trial date has been scheduled for Kevin Gregson, the former Mountie accused of killing Ottawa police Const. Eric Czapnik.

Gregson's trial for first-degree murder is set to begin Nov. 7, 2011. It is expected to last four weeks.

Gregson, 44, was arrested Dec. 29, 2009, after Czapnik was stabbed to death in the parking lot of the Civic campus of the Ottawa Hospital.

Czapnik, 51, was doing paperwork in his police cruiser at the time. He was a married father of four who had only been on the force for three years.

If convicted, Gregson is likely to receive a life sentence with no possibility of parole for 25 years.
