TORONTO - Toronto police have issued a warning after a man reported finding a needle in a package of lettuce hearts.

Police say the man found a five-centimetre sewing needle pierced into the spine of the lettuce purchased last Thursday.

It was a package containing two Andy Boy romaine lettuce hearts in clear wrapping with pink lettering on the front.

No one was injured.

Police say the lettuce was purchased in either the Lawrence Avenue and Midland Avenue or Lawrence Avenue and Birchmount Road areas.

Police advise people to check any pre-packaged lettuce before eating it.
