A toddler is dead after a fire in the town of Deep River, two a half hours northwest of Ottawa. Ontario Provincial Police say officers arrived at the home around 9 p.m. Friday. The incident remains under investigation.

A number of people were outside the home; the toddler, about three years old, was trapped inside the basement.

Witnesses report there was a party going on outside the home.

Friends and family have identified the child as Hayden, who lived with his mother, Tasha Desjardins, and her fiance, Christian Caron.

Authorities have not identified the child. An autopsy should be done in the next few days.

A 19-year-old man was airlifted to hospital with second-degree burns.
