A deadly drunk driving case against Jack Tobin, the son of former Newfoundland and Labrador premier Brian Tobin, will be back in court in mid-February.
Tobin, 24, stared straight ahead during a brief court appearance in Ottawa this morning.
Tobin appeared to have a serious demeanor and didn't talk much during the short court appearance. His father and mother were by his side.
Tobin is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and impaired driving causing death.
The charges relate to a collision that killed Tobin's friend on Christmas Eve.
Alex Zolpis, 24, died when he got trapped under a rental truck on the top floor of a Byward Market parking garage between George and York Streets. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tobin and Zolpis were close friends who went to high school and university together.
Lawyer Norm Boxall wouldn't comment on how his client is doing.
Boxall says he's still waiting for the Crown to disclose their case against his client.
Tobin was granted bail on a $100,000-bond on Christmas Day. His bail conditions require him to live with his parents and not consume any alcohol.
Tobin was also granted a bail concession on Thursday. He will no longer be required to appear in court every time his case is back on the docket.
That means Tobin likely won't appear in court again until a plea is entered. His case is back in court on Feb. 10.
