Three young men in their twenties were injured today after their car slammed into a tree in the south end of Ottawa.  The collision happened just after 1 p.m. on Leitrim Road between Bank Street and Albion Road.

When Ottawa firefighters arrived, they found the vehicle lying on its side.  The passenger in the back of the car had managed to get out.  They were able to extricate the front seat passenger but the driver was trapped.  Using heavy hydraulic rescue tools, they managed to free his legs, which had been pinned under the crumpled dash of the car.

The driver sustained serious head injuries and is in serious but stable condition in the hospital.  The passenger was also treated for head injuries and he, too, is in stable condition.  The man in the back seat had minor facial injuries.

Ottawa Police are investigating the crash.
