A small community about an hour east of Ottawa is dealing with the loss of a three-year-old boy who was killed in a house fire in Fournier, Ont.

Firefighters pulled the boy's body from a burning home on County Road 15 when they arrived at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

A woman, who was babysitting her boyfriend's twin boys, managed to escape the flames with one of the children.

The woman and the surviving child were transported to hospital where they were treated for shock, smoke inhalation and minor injuries.

Fire crews from Hawkesbury and three surrounding villages were called in to fight the fire, which was still burning late Thursday afternoon.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. The Ontario Fire Marshal's office has been called in to investigate.
