Three people are homeless after their southwest Ottawa row house was ravaged by fire Friday morning.

Ottawa Fire Services said they found heavy smoke coming from one unit of an eight-door, two storey row house at 267 Thistledown Court in Barrhaven around 12:40 a.m. Friday.

A male, female and a five-year-old child had evacuated before fire crews arrived, all taken to hospital with possible smoke inhalation.

Fire crews said the fire which started in the first floor living room and spread to the second floor was under control by 1:19 a.m.

Damage is estimated at $100,000 for the building and $50,000 for its contents. The cause is under investigation.
