Ottawa police are investigating after a fight inside a Byward Market bar sent three people to hospital early Saturday, a scene some say is happening more often.
Police said the incident happened inside Industry Room in the 100 block of York Street around 1:10 a.m.
Three men, two aged 23 and one age 21, were injured after a bar fight with broken bottles.
They were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Recent incidents like this are causing some to grow more worried about going out in the popular downtown area.
"Tensions are high, energy's high, a lot of people on alcohol and it can get rowdy," said one market-goer later that day. "It definitely makes me not want to go to the market."
Others said they're used to seeing drunk people trying to cause trouble.
"It's expected, boys are stupid and they like to fight when they get drunk," said one person.. "It doesn't bother me, I still go out."
"People tend to think when you look at them, you're trying to confront them," another said.
A man was stabbed in the abdomen in the Byward Market in December, with Ottawa's first homocide of 2012 a mid-January stabbing on Dalhousie Street.
Kyle Marcotte said he's been in about 30 fights in the Byward Market and that he's used to seeing fights that police don't hear about.
"I haven't seen anyone get stabbed but I've seen brickings, so people take bricks to the face," he said. "I have seen people pull out knives."
A man was arrested near the scene of the Industry Room fight and is in custody while police continue to investigate.
