OTTAWA - Power has been restored in some areas around Ottawa after thousands of people were left without electricity following a night of thunderstorms.

More than 2,600 Hydro One customers to the west of Ottawa lost power due to Wednesday night's storms.

Areas affected at the peak of the outage included Almonte, Clayton Lake, Mississippi Mills and Pakenham.

However, Hydro One said crews working in the area had restored power in Almonte on Thursday morning and expected to have the remaining areas back up before 9 a.m.

Meanwhile, crews were responding to a power outage in Ottawa's west end, affecting about 350 customers in the Kanata area.

The utility said it expected to have power restored there by 11 a.m.
