OTTAWA -- Ottawa Public Health is reporting 13 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Saturday.

The new cases follow three days of double-digit increases, with 16 new cases on Wednesday, 19 on Thursday, and 15 on Friday.

 

There were 70 new cases reported in all of Ontario on Saturday. Thirteen cases were also reported in the Peel region. Toronto is reporting a single new case, while Windsor-Essex is reporting three.

In Ottawa, the 13 new cases reported by Ottawa Public Health bring the cumulative total of all laboratory-confirmed cases to 2,623 since the first case was confirmed on March 11.

The dashboard shows the community seven-day average continues to fall, from 9.50 on Aug. 1 to 5.13 on Aug. 7. 

Test results are seeing some delays. OPH says that between Aug. 1 and Aug. 7, 11 per cent of positive tests results were reported within 24 hours and 60 per cent were returned in 48 hours.

No new deaths were reported in Saturday's update, marking an 11th straight day of zero new deaths. The death toll in Ottawa from COVID-19 stands at 264 residents.

There are 12 people in hospital, with two people in intensive care.

Active Cases

The number of known active cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa has fallen for a third straight day.

OPH reports 155 active cases, down 29 from Friday's report, driven by a large increase in resolved cases.

The number of active cases is the number of total lab-confirmed cases minus the numbers of resolved cases and deaths.

Forty-two new resolved cases were added to OPH's count for a total of 2,204 since the pandemic began. That accounts for 84 per cent of all cases to date.

A case is consdered resolved 14 days after known symptom onset or positive test result.

Cases by Age

Eleven of the 13 new cases reported by OPH Saturday were in people under the age of 40, including four children under 10 and three people 10-19.

  • 0-9 years old: Four new cases (83 cases total, 21 active)
  • 10-19 years-old: Three new cases (150 cases total, 28 active)
  • 20-29 years-old: One new case (416 cases total, 34 active)
  • 30-39 years-old: Three new cases (353 cases total, 30 active)
  • 40-49 years-old: One new case (337 cases total, 10 active)
  • 50-59 years-old: One new case (352 cases total, 12 active)
  • 60-69-years-old: No new cases (266 cases total, 13 active)
  • 70-79 years-old: No new cases (191 cases total, 3 active)
  • 80-89 years-old: No new cases (277 cases total, 3 active)
  • 90+ years: No new cases (198 cases total, 1 active)

Institutional Outbreaks

There are 12 active institutional outbreaks in Ottawa.

A new outbreak has been declared at Villa Marconi on Baseline Road, with one confirmed case in a staff member. A previous outbreak at the long-term care home ran from April 9 to April 23, with three staff cases total.

A single laboratory-confirmed case of COVID-19 in a resident or staff member of a long-term care home or retirement home triggers an outbreak response, according to Ottawa Public Health. In childcare settings, a single confirmed, symptomatic case in a staff member, home daycare provider, or child triggers an outbreak.
