Tensions in Deseronto, Ont., southwest of Ottawa, continue to heighten as a group of Mohawk protestors continue to block the town's main street.

About 75 Mohawks took to the street Sunday night to protest a Kingston, Ont. developer's plan to build on a seven-hectare piece of land claimed by the area's First Nations.

Protestors forced the developer off the land Monday and said they would continue to clear the land throughout the week.

Desoronto's mayor is now appealing to the federal government to step in and speed up land claim negotiations in the area.
