An Ottawa man charged with murder has been identified as a disgruntled tenant who was supposed to get an eviction notice on the night the owner of his apartment building was killed.
The building's superintendant told CTV Ottawa Said Karsbary, 58, was supposed to deliver an eviction notice to the accused the same night Karsbary's body was found after flames tore through a rental office in the building.
Police confirmed Friday afternoon that Kasbary was indeed the victim of Ottawa's fourth homicide of the year.
Kasbary was last known to be working at the apartment building Wednesday night. His car remained parked outside on Friday. In addition to owning rental properties, Karsbary was also a driving examiner in the city.
Prior to his death, Kasbary called two employees to come into work. Neither was able to come in and he didn't give a reason for the call.
About an hour later, a rental office in the basement of the apartment building was up in flames.
Andre Bard, who worked as a superintendant for Kasbary, said the man charged with second-degree murder lived in a building next door.
Dalibor Orsag, 27, apparently was a former employee of Karsbary who did maintenance work around the building for cash. He was later fired after being accused of stealing money, Bard said. Orsag also had trouble paying rent, he added.
