An early morning stabbing has claimed the life of 17-year-old Issaiah Clachar and sent two other victims to hospital, Ottawa Police said.
Police and paramedics responded to reports of a stabbing on Jasmine Crescent in Ottawa's east end shortly after midnight Sunday. On arrival, they found two people with stab wounds. A third person in his 20's was found a short time later with multiple soft tissue wounds.
Clachar was transported to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, where he later died of his injuries.
A second victim, a 23-year-old man, was taken to hospital in serious, but stable condition.
Major Crime is investigating the incident. Police say two individuals are in custody and are expected to appear in court Monday.
"Right now we compare statements, we still gather eye witness accounts of what happened, we put it all together, match it up with the physical evidence and hopefully come out with a clear picture," said Staff Sgt. Bruce Pirt.
Staff Sgt. Pirt says the incident started as a fight and quickly escalated.
A resident who does not want to be named said she could hear people arguing over cheques.
The stabbing happened next to an apartment building where 18-year-old Connor Stevenson was stabbed to death in April.
This is Ottawa's sixth homicide.
