Three young lifeguards are being credited with saving the life of a 14-year-old girl who was found unresponsive at the bottom of the Carleton University pool Saturday morning.
Ottawa Paramedics said they were called to the school around 7:12 a.m.
Lifeguards pulled the teen from the pool and provided CPR for two minutes until paramedics arrived. Paramedics said the girl regained a pulse and became conscious after she had a short seizure.
Kaitlyn Sennema was one of the lifeguards on duty. She credits her training for being able to react quickly and jump into the pool.
"We go into autopilot and all of our training just rushes to the forefront and we just deal with it," said Sennema.
Another lifeguard said she was just doing her job and was in the right place at the right time.
"I guess it's kind of surreal for us to imagine that somebody was dead or could have died so from my perspective I'm just happy that she's okay," said Catherine Supple-Craig.
The teen is recovering in hospital and is in stable condition.
A swim club was going on at the time of the incident.
