An 18-year-old Aylmer man found dead at Lac des Loups near Quyon, Que., Sunday was a long-time friend of the man accused of killing him.

Police say 19-year-old Daniel Sempels has been charged with second degree murder. He appeared in court Monday afternoon.

Though there are reports Nicholas Quintal was found naked in a car on the side of the road, police have said his body was found in the woods.

Officers with the Sûreté du Québec would not comment any further. One at the scene said "we can't give you any information."

CTV Ottawa's Joanne Schnurr spoke with the father of the accused Jean-Marie Sempels.

Sempels says he is grieving for both boys, and doesn't understand what could have happened.

"I love Nicholas like I love my son too," said Sempels.

Sempels says the boys went to school together, played sports together, and were quite close.

Sources tell CTV the two were fighting over a girl.

The court heard Quintal was struck with a blunt object. His body was found a few kilometres from the Sempels rural home.

The anguished father of the accused has watched from the roadside since Sunday as investigators scour his home and the property around it for evidence.

"I just don't understand," said Sempels.

His son will appear in court again on June 7.

An autopsy on Quintal's body will be conducted in Montreal.
