A 17-year-old is dead after crashing into a tree in rural west Ottawa Sunday morning.
Ottawa paramedics said they were called to Dunrobin Side Road near Crown Point Road just after 9:45 a.m. when someone spotted a car that had gone off the road.
The teen had left the road and hit a tree about ten minutes before, with police saying they don't think anyone saw the crash.
"Looks like the car was northbound on Dunrobin Road and for an unknown reason went out of control, went sideways into the bush and hit a tree," said Insp. John McGetrick of the Ottawa police, who are investigating the crash.
She was pronounced dead at the scene and was the only patient paramedics said they found.
Family friends said it wasn't on her normal route home, as she was coming back from a family party.
"Apparently it was her father's birthday, he turned 50," said the mother of one of her friends.
Two other teenagers said she had dropped them off and was on her way home at the time of the crash.
Police aren;t releasing her name at the request of her family and are looking into whether alcohol was involved.
