Hundreds of teachers, support staff and students staged a large protest outside Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty’s Ottawa office Friday afternoon.

It was the first major protest since the McGuinty government passed legislation that imposed a contract on teachers and took away their right to strike.

The protest closed down Kilborn Avenue in Alta Vista for several hours Friday afternoon.

Students protested at several local high schools earlier in the day, many angry at the loss of extracurricular activities.

Teachers are refusing to participate in extracurricular activities to protest the legislation.
