Organizers of the marathon Tamil demonstration in downtown Ottawa expect crowds to increase this weekend.

A solidarity march is scheduled for Saturday, the 12th day of protests urging a stronger Canadian effort to stop Sri Lanka's bloody civil war.

One woman on a hunger strike refused to go to the hospital on Friday afternoon.

Many protesters have come from Montreal and Toronto, leaving their jobs to stay with relatives or strangers who live in Ottawa. Others, who don't have accommodation, have turned to sleeping in their cars.

The United Nations says about 100,000 civilians are trapped in the Sri Lankan war zone with dozens dying every day.
