A suspected drunk driver and their passenger apparently tried to dupe Belleville police on Sunday afternoon by switching seats before being pulled over.

Someone called police just after 12 p.m. to complain that their vehicle was nearly struck while parked in an east-end parking lot. The caller provided a description of the vehicle, driver, and passenger.

When police located the suspect vehicle they found that the passenger had become the driver, according to a release.

The original driver was arrested for impaired driving and will appear in court in May. The passenger was issued a 12-hour licence suspension.

No names were released.
