The suspicious death of a 36-year-old woman whose body was found in a Vanier parking lot is being investigated as the city's ninth homicide of the year.

Jennifer Leigh Stewart's body was found Friday morning in the parking lot of an apartment building near the intersection of Alice Street and St. Charles, close to Le Trillium elementary school.

An autopsy concluded Stewart was killed by multiple stab wounds. Her death shocked those who live in the quiet neighbourhood, east of downtown Ottawa.

Stewart's death brings this year's number of homicides to the same level as 2009.

"Last year, we had nine throughout the whole year, so we are now matching it, so hopefully things are going to be quieter," said Const. J.P. Vincelette.

Police have not made any arrests in the case, and are continuing their investigation

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to contact the Major Crime Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5493, or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS).
