Police revealed the name of an Ottawa man on Saturday accused of killing his boyfriend, who was later discovered inside a suitcase on a downtown corner in Montreal.

Michael-Andrew Garreau, 33, made a brief court appearance in that city via a video link. He had turned himself in to Ottawa police on Thursday night.

The victim -- also from Ottawa -- was found around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday when a passerby noticed a foot sticking out of a suitcase abandoned at De Bullion and Charlotte streets in Montreal.

Police say he had "obvious signs" of violence on his body, but have not released any further details. Results of an autopsy are expected at some point on Saturday.

Garreau did not enter a plea.
