Ottawa Police have arrested the 30-year-old suspect in relation to Monday’s homicides in the city’s west end.

Police say Alam Gabriel Buoc was taken into custody Thursday night without incident in the west end. Buoc is facing two charges of first-degree murder and one of attempted murder. He made his first court appearance by video Friday afternoon. 

Abdulrahman Al-Shammari, 26, and Dirie Olol, 27, were shot to death on Monday. Al-Shammari’s body was discovered in the Elmhurst Park area.

Olol’s body was found hours later in a vehicle about three kilometres away, on Wayne Avenue near the Sir John A. Macdonald parkway.

Buoc is also charged with attempted murder in relation to a third man who suffered gunshot wounds. He remains in serious condition in hospital.

Buoc is known to police and has a number of convictions and charges to his name, including breach of bail conditions, possession charges and weapon-related charges.
