Ottawa police are getting closer to locating the vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a 38-year-old Ottawa man over the weekend.
Police say they have surveillance camera footage of the vehicle that hit Mitchell Anderson as he crossed the road at Colonel By Drive and Rideau Street at about 11:15 p.m. Sunday.
Anderson was critically injured in the collision and died in hospital two days later.
His 17-year-old daughter Christine Dacosta made an emotional plea Thursday for the driver involved in the hit-and-run to come forward.
"I would like him to turn himself in," Dacosta told CTV Ottawa, fighting back tears.
"I just keep thinking this is a dream and I'm going to wake up and we're going to be together again."
Police continue to look for red sports car
With the help of witnesses, police say they've been able to confirm that the vehicle involved in the fatal collision was a red Mazda RX-8 sports car. The surveillance footage also shows that the vehicle has a sunroof which was open at the time of the incident.
Police are now working to identify the vehicle's plate number.
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation also offered their help Thursday, saying they would hand over information to investigators about the owners of all Mazda RX-8 vehicles registered in the Ottawa area.
Witnesses have described the driver of the sports car as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s. A passenger travelling in the car at the time of the collision is described as a white female with shoulder-length blond hair also in her late 20s or early 30s.
Police continue to urge both the driver and the passenger to come forward to tell investigators their side of the story.
