Every year taxpayers get a look at the six-figure or more salaries they're paying to Ontario public workers in the so-called "Sunshine List".

The 2011 edition, released Friday, featured 78,910 names which is up about ten per cent from 2010's list.

In Ottawa, nearly 1,200 city employees made the list led by city manager Kent Kirkpatrick at $385,000 a year – up about $104,000 from last year.

Deputy managers Nancy Schepers ($279,000) and Steve Kanellakos ($275,000) were also significantly higher than Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson, who made $185,000.

"The city manager, yes they probably do a ton of work but the mayor has to take care of the whole entire city and make sure, not just public image but make sure the books are balanced," said Ottawa resident Ann Cole.

"I think his job is equally as important and they should make the same amount of money or maybe the mayor (should make) a little bit more."

The highest-paid public sector worker in Ottawa is Ottawa Hospital president and CEO Jack Kitts at $630,000.

The Ottawa Hospital has 89 more names on the list in 2011 than 2010, most of them pharmacists who worked overtime.

"I remember once there was a plumber on the list and people were outraged with that," said Darren Cates. "When you read his story about how much overtime he worked and why he was working the overtime, you know he was working a lot of hours to get that."

The highest-paid public worker in Ontario was again Ontario Power Generation president and CEO Tom Mitchell, who made $1.8 million.

There was some controversy about the lack of disclosure for former Ornge chief executive Chris Mazza, who reportedly made $1.4 million before being replaced.
