Nick and Kyle Lefebvre's west Ottawa community is rallying behind the pair after they lost both their parents last month.
The brothers' Stittsville hockey organization organized a silent auction Saturday in Kanata to help support them, with donations of gift cards, hockey tickets and an Erik Karlsson signed stick.
Their mother Theresa Lefebvre died about a week after being beaten by her husband Peter, who later took his own life.
"It's a community thing, it hits everybody," said Patricia Parker. "It took my interest because I've heard all about the Lefebvre boys and if this is a way to support them, it's a wonderful thing to do."
"It wasn't even a second thought for us," said Cheryl McCleery. "It was like OK, people need our help, let's rally together and do it."
The Lefebvre boys, aged 12 and 15, will also benefit from $4,600 raised during a bottle drive last week.
"We always said it would be nice if we could partially pay tuition for university or something like that, we want it to go towards something," said Sue Bond.
"We're overwhelmed," McCleery said. "It's a fantastic feeling, everyone cares."
There's also a fundraising garage sale and barbeque in the community of Westwind Saturday, June 2 starting at 8 a.m.
