It will go down as one of the most memorable evenings in Ottawa Senators franchise history as former Senators Captain Daniel Alfredsson announced his retirement.

It all started with a morning news conference where Alfredsson made it official. He signed a one day contract, so he could join the Senators for the pre-game skate for one final time.

Hours later he arrived alongside Captain Erik Karlsson for tonight's game. Alfredsson, returning to his usual spot in the lockeroom, which now belongs to Clarke MacArthur, who graciously gave it up to Alfredsson for the evening,

Once the fesitivities got underway, a touching video tribute was played. Fans were on their feet for Alfredsson as he was joined by his family at centre ice for the ceremonial face off. Alfredsson thanked the fans and hinted they haven't seen the last of him "Let's not say good bye. Merci et a bientot".

Alfredsson said he plans on spending time with his family over the next year.
