A seniors' home in south Ottawa was evacuated Thursday evening after a two-alarm fire broke out inside the building.

The fire began in the kitchen of the Windsor Park Retirement Residence on Hunt Club Road at about 4:43 p.m.

Fire crews said the blaze appears to have spread into the attic. Sixteen fire vehicles responded to the call.

Officials said a thorough search was conducted to make sure all of the residents were evacuated. No injuries have been reported.

There are approximately 100 units in the two-storey building.

OC Transpo buses have been dispatched to the location to help the residents stay warm.

The fire forced the closure of Hunt Club Road between Downpatrick Road Road and the Airport Parkway.
