CTV News has learned that one of the men at the centre of one of the scandals facing uOttawa this week is the son of Kingston’s police chief.
Alex Larochelle, son of Chief Gilles Larochelle, resigned from uOttawa’s student union yesterday amid reports he participated in an online conversation in which sexually violent comments were posted about the student President, Anne-Marie Roy.
In a statement, Gilles Larochelle and Tessa Youngson-Larochelle said:
“As the parents of Alexandre Larochelle, we are providing this statement to confirm we stand with our son as his words do not reflect his true character or values. He knows how wrong it was to make the comments and to participate in such a conversation. Response to his words has been wide spread and social comments have vilified him.”
The statement went on to say: “Alexandre made a mistake that he has apologized for and resigned from a position he was very committed to. He regrets the hurt he has caused. We ask you to give him the chance to learn and make amends. This is a family matter now and we will not comment further.”
