Ontario’s Environment Ministry has officially issued a smog advisory for nearly a dozen municipalities, signaling air quality will be less than favourable.

The following municipalities are under the advisory:

  • Bancroft-Bon Echo
  • Belleville-Quinte-Northumberland
  • Brockville-Leeds and Grenville
  • City of Ottawa
  • Cornwall-Morrisburg
  • Kingston-Prince Edward
  • Peterborough-Kawartha Lakes
  • Prescott and Russell
  • Renfrew-Pembroke-Barry's Bay
  • Smiths Falls-Lanark-Sharbot Lake
  • Stirling-Tweed-South Frontenac

Officials with the ministry say a northeasterly flow of polluted air from forest fires in Quebec is resulting in high smog levels over Eastern Ontario.

Some experts suggests the air quality will stay poor throughout the week due to high temperatures expected in the forecast.

Those with respiratory conditions like asthma may notice the change the most.
