Residents of Smiths Falls and the surrounding areas are under a boil water advisory for the next three to four days, according to town officials.

Officials issued the advisory after a water main at the old Water Treatment plant broke while a contractor was working at the site.

Residents are being told not to drink their tap water without it being boiled first.

Residents should not be concerned about using their water to bathe or take a shower.

Officials say the water is safe as long as it is not being consumed prior to boiling for at least one minute.
