Six people were arrested in Ottawa and Gatineau Wednesday on charges of drug possession and trafficking after search warrants were executed on both sides of the river.
The raids began at 5 a.m. when Ottawa police and the Street Gang Unit of Outaouais entered four homes in Gatineau and one on Cooper Street in Ottawa.
Police seized one pound of cannabis, three rocks of crack cocaine, and other items including computers, scales, cell phones and cash, during the raids.
Const. Isabelle Poirier said the warrants were executed after complaints from the public and a thorough investigation by police.
Poirier said the arrests are related to a street gang in Montreal and that all six people taken into custody know each other.
Two women in their 30's and one in her 20's was charged with possession of drugs and possession for the purpose of trafficking. Another woman in her 30's and two men in their 50's were also charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.
All were released and are scheduled to appear in court.
