SIU investigation in Orleans
The Ontario Special Investigations Unit is probing an incident in Ottawa's east end.
The organization reports a man armed with a knife was shot on Tenth Line Road near Innes Road around 6:00 Tuesday evening.
Police say a 20-year-old man was threatening people with a knife when he was shot twice by a police officer. He was taken to hospital in stable condition.
The man lives in a house on Tenth Line Road near the scene. An occupant of the house says everyone who lives there are originally from Nunavut. He declined to give his name or his relation to the suspect. But he had harsh words for the police, telling CFRA News "they didn't need to shoot him." "I hope in the future if a boy gets mad they don't shoot him. They wrestle him down."
Neighbours say they don't know the residents personally, but describe them as quiet and often see children playing in the yard.
The northbound lanes of Tenth Line Road were closed between Innes and Charlemagne for almost 18 hours while the SIU conducted its investigation. The road re-opened Wednesday at noon.
The SIU is called in whenever someone is seriously injured, killed or sexually assaulted where police are involved.
