It took just a few seconds to reduce the Sir John Carling building on Carling Ave. to 40,000 tonnes of rubble.

Just before 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, the former Agriculture Canada building was imploded as hundreds of people looked on.

The 11-storey building came down with about 400 kilograms of dynamite at a cost of $4.8 million.

Onlookers were kept about 300 metres back for safety reasons. Many took photos and cheered when the demolition was completed.

The building had been standing since 1967.
