A man under 20 is in hospital after being shot in Ottawa's west end. 

Police say they responded to reports of shots fired on Bloomsbury Crescent in the Woodroffe and Baseline area around 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014.

The circumstances around the incident remain unclear. Police say the man was shot in the left arm. His injuries are not life threatening.

Paramedics say they were not called to the scene. 

Ottawa Police are beefing up their presence after the second shooting in less than 24 hours, and the third shooting in four days. 

Police say gang violence in the city is escalating and gettting more violent. There are between 15 and 20 active gangs in the Ottawa area. 

The Guns and Gangs unit is now investigating.
