OTTAWA - The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid a number of charges in relation to a series of recent 2014 retail robberies.

On April 18, 2014, at approximately 7:45 pm, two suspects, one male and one female, armed with knives, entered a convenience store situated along the 300 block of Fifth Avenue. A customer was present at the time of the robbery. The customer was struck with the butt end of a knife by one of the suspects. The suspects made demands for cash and then fled with a quantity of cigarettes, cash, and the cash register. The suspects fled to a waiting vehicle with a third suspect as driver. There were no injuries.

On April 21, 2014, at approximately 12:45 am, two male suspects entered a convenience store situated along the 4000 block of Bridle Path Drive. The suspects were armed with a knife and an expandable baton. The suspects fled with a quantity of cigarettes and lottery tickets. There were no injuries.

On April 23, 2014, at approximately 2:40 am, two male suspects entered a convenience store situated along the 1100 block of Bank Street. At least one of the suspects was armed with a handgun which was pointed at the employee. The suspects fled with a quantity of cash, cigarettes and lottery tickets. There were no injuries.

On April 25, 2014, at approximately 11:55 pm, two suspects, one male and one female, attended a gas station kiosk situated along the 3700 block of Riverside Drive. The suspect approached a store employee and confronted him with a handgun. The suspects fled with an undisclosed quantity of cash, cigarettes, and lottery tickets. The suspects fled at which point the female suspect and a female suspect occupying a waiting vehicle were arrested by plain clothes police officers. The male suspect fled the scene but was arrested a short time later. There were no injuries. The handgun was recovered at the scene.

Ryan DUMONT, age 29 of Ottawa:

  • robbery X 4
  • wearing a disguise X 4
  • conspiracy to commit an indictable offence X 4
  • possession of weapon dangerous X 4
  • resisting arrest
  • pointing a firearm X 2
  • possession of property obtained by crime
  • assault with a weapon

Tabitha POULIN, age 29 of Ottawa:

  • robbery X 2
  • conspiracy to commit an indictable offence x 2
  • possession of weapon dangerous X 2
  • possession of property obtained by crime X 3
  • assault with a weapon

Shannon FIELD, age 28 of Ottawa:

  • robbery X 2
  • wearing a disguise X 2
  • conspiracy to commit an indictable offence X 2
  • possession of weapon dangerous X 2
  • resisting arrest
  • possession of property obtained by crime X 3
  • assault with a weapon

All three persons appeared in court on Sunday April 27, 2014. They remain in custody. Poulin and Field appear next in court on April 30, 2014. Mr. Dumont appears next on May 5, 2014.

One additional male suspect is currently being sought in relation to this investigation. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be laid.
