It's the kind of overtime no hockey fan wants, waiting in line as cars slowly file out of the parking lot.

It's a notorious problem at Ottawa's Canadian Tire Centre. And now the Ottawa Senators are trying to do something about it.

The Sens have announced changes to their exit plan. They hope a combination of new exit ramps, a new roundabout, and changing the flow of traffic will speed up how traffic flows away from the arena. "This will make a measurable improvement. We're certain of that," says Ottawa Senators President, Cyril Leeder.

The changes will happen in stages over the month of October. They include a new roundabout north of the arena at Huntmar Drive and Campeau that will eventually accomodate two lanes of traffic on their way to the Queensway. Two-lane exits will be installed coming out of parking lot #1, north of the arena, heading north onto Huntmar.

Eventually, two lanes of traffic will also be able to do the same heading southbound from parking lot #4, south of the arena.

"The biggest change really is operationally. Northbound and southbaound on Huntmar will be one-way only after the game," explains Leeder.

The Ottawa Senators have posted a map of their new exit strategy online.
